Project Life, Week 34

So if you know how I do Project Life, you know that sometimes a day or more spills over...as did here. One thing I have started to do more of now that PL is a habit for me, is mark the week's and dates and be more consistent.  

 Lots going on this week.  Announcement for the Carta Bella team and I got my box of products.  So honored and blessed.  And my scrapbook friend, Linda, came in town.  First time for us meeting.  I played tourist in New Orleans, that is usually the only time I really hang out in the Quarter.  Although, I do love the shops.  Linda and I found this really cool shop called Nouvelle Lune (the card and business cards in PL below).  I would love to visit again and be able to buy some things there.  Really great art.

And I have to say, if you are ever in New Orleans, this was my first time doing a cemetery tour, and it was excellent.  Well worth $20.  Go through Haunted History Tours and ask for Ernie.  He is from here, getting a history degree...very very good tour.  I felt like I was in Junior High again learning Louisiana History, that I had forgotten!

By the time this post goes live, we will probably not have power.  Will be posting on FB that we are safe when I can.  Hope everyone stays safe as well.

Lily Bee Challenge

For Lily Bee's blog today, I decided to do one of my favorite techniques.  Head over there and I hope you can join the challenge.  Lily Bee is always so generous with prizes.

My challenge is to use the negative cut outs.  I cut apart the stars and backed them with pattern paper.  Cutting them up was a little different for me to try, and I really liked it.  

I did do this quick card because I used my circle punch.  The stars were cut with the Cameo.  So I wanted to show that you could use whatever tools you have.  And like with this card...super easy, quick card for when you need one!

Still beautiful weather, just starting to look a little grey.  We are still staying for Isaac...but we will be safe.  Probably no power for at the most a week.  So getting online while I can ;)  Blessings and be safe!

Making Some Cards

I finally tried the "confetti" trend.  I love it on other people's projects, but I'm not crazy about it on my own.  So using one of Lisa's ideas from the Trendspotting class at Studio Calico, but instead of a glassine envelope, I folded over a piece of vellum..stitched the sides, filled with confetti, then finished stitching back up.  Really a quick and fun card to make.

Then I kept going and using up some of the Studio Calico kits, I made these two cards...

We are preparing for Isaac to make landfall...so hopefully will have one more post this week scheduled for tomorrow.  But praying we and everyone affected by Isaac are safe!  

Carta Bella

I am so excited and so honored to be a part of the Carta Bella team...such an amazing group of ladies...so blessed to work with them!

I had the chance to play with the Beautiful Moments collection from My Scrapbook Nook's August kit.    A few cards here using the collection.  Really enjoying making cards lately...

And a layout, can't wait to do more with this collection and the new releases!  These were photos I had printed awhile ago of Emma with her Aunt Lisa...a very special relationship, and I wanted these photos documented.

 Such a beautiful collection to work with...the papers are a very heavy texture.  A lot like Authentique's papers.

My Scrapbook Nook has announced it is closing the end of September.  Very sad about the closing, but understand that the owner and coordinator are ready to retire and wish them the best.  The Nook and the community have been so wonderful.  I have felt so comfortable there.  There's just something special about the community there.  I do love Studio Calico and the inspiration, but if you're like me and like a smaller community, I have also found another great community like the Nook called Scraptastic. If you don't have a scrap community, come check it out...

Project Life, Weeks 31, 31, and 32

I was so honored when Lisa from 2 Peas asked me to guest for her Project Life class she does over there.  You can see this over at 2 Peas along with the supplies I used.  The theme was "officey" type products and memorabilia.   This was a special week because of spending it with some of the families we had traveled to China with...so sweet to see these girls together, and to celebrate Merrin's birthday!

 Week 31 - been doing a lot of reading...finished the last Septimus Heap book...not as good as Harry Potter, but I really enjoyed the series.  Of course, we watched some of the Olympics.  Emma said she could do all of that ;)

 Week 32 - yes I got my jury notice...will have to go for a week.  I'd love to serve really...just we don't have baby sitters.  So my sisters are on standby in case we need them...Emma started school, she was a little "shy" she said, but she loved it!  See less photos?  Yep, slowed down a little and did some fill ins...and just keep going and don't look back ;)

Really glad to get back into a routine.  The summer is so stinking hot.

Excited about the rest of the week...my friend, Linda, is coming to see us!  This is the first time meeting her in person, although we've talked on FaceTime and email, FB, and  text all the time ;)  Hope everyone has a great week!

Trendspotting Layouts and Cards

I've been taking the Studio Calico Trendspotting class.  I have really enjoyed seeing what everyone makes and how the class makes you try something new or incorporate a trend into your style.

This was my first layout and cards I did using the triangle trend.  I've used triangles before, so I decided to pull out some of my unused Studio Calico kits, make squares out of the pattern paper, then cut them in half and piece back together to form a pattern.  I had these photos printed for awhile, and now they are finally scrapped...

The colors of the paper are not really girly...kind of woodsy looking, so I thought it would make for great masculine cards...

The class gave me the chance to just play and enjoy creating...I wanted to step out of my comfort zone a little more.  For this layout, I did the ombre effect, but with pattern paper.  All the paper is from Studio Calico's Hey Day.  The leaves and the flowers have that ombre look to them.  Ombre is the graduated color from dark to light.  It's subtle, but I liked how this came out.  Also cut the paper into the borders and clustered by the photos.

For this next layout, I used one of the cutting files they offered to cut on your die cutting machine.  I used the Cameo to cut the circular triangles...but made the design a little smaller before cutting.  After I cut it out...I cut it in three pieces putting some of the pieces on pop dots.  I wanted to create something "different" just having fun, and I did...it was good creative therapy ;)

I pulled out the watercolors to do more ombre effects...and Emma had a blast...

Good thing we don't have carpet anymore ;)

I painted on some watercolor paper, then did some stamping and cutting out.  For the tag on this card, I traced another tag onto the watercolor paper, then cut out...

Emma and I had a lot of fun playing, and I am now a fan of the ombre trend.  I think this is one of my favorites.

Summer Mini Album

Even though I do Project Life, doing this mini-album of highlights from the Summer, made me realize even more how fast time goes by.  

And here is a picture of when I was making the transfer onto the canvas, but you can read how I did it on the Lily Bee blog.  You can see the transferred image from the pattern paper starting to show through.
