Memorial Day Weekend

Our long weekend started on Thursday...Aunt Lisa was off, so me, Emma, and Aunt Lisa headed to the "big" mall.  We mainly shopped at the Disney store for Emma's birthday.  I can't believe I actually was able to buy what I bought and she didn't make a fuss about not getting it all like NOW.

After our hard work and excitement of shopping, we stopped for beignets and coffee for us, water for her.  The "big" mall, as we tell Emma, is full of memories for me and Lisa, since we grew up just a few streets away from it.  The mall has changed a whole lot from what it once was and who used to work there as well.  In the past, we'd stop by J.C. Penney to tell Mom hi.  She worked as the switchboard operator.  Lots of memories...
So funny to be sharing with Emma now.  The place Lisa and I loved to hang out at all the time is now going to be a place Emma will want to hang out at (NOT BY HERSELF!) LOL!
She loved making a wish with our pennies...but didn't understand why she couldn't start taking our nickels and quarters...
This was a picture taken by Emma using Aunt Lisa's phone...how funny!  Me driving...
And thanks to Wendy, she had made this pico de gallo and guacamole when we went over to her house one weekend.  She said she got the recipe from the Pioneer Woman...  Since I could probably eat my weight in pico de gallo and guacamole, I looked up the recipe and made some this weekend.  Sorry Lisa, it never lasted through the entire weekend :(
 And little twinkle toes...
...dancing to Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on the Wii.  Dennis thought she might be into it now that she's older, but she just wanted to dance...
 Practicing her ballet moves...
 ...very focused...
 ...paying attention to form ;)
 Archie looking on...
Later little chickadee wants to nap, but she just cannot do it...
HOT outside, but the pool makes it better.   She loves the pool even more every summer...
Gets a little more and more comfortable with starting to float on her own...
Oh, and the mall...I found some new flip flops...the FitFlops.  When I saw them online, I thought I could wear those and it wouldn't bother my previous tendon injury.  Oh my...I LOVE these things!
And we have not left the house at all since Friday.  We made it a plan to really try to do some potty training, and STAY home.  She had done it before in the potty and the toilet back in October...so with her memory like an elephant, you'd think she would remember it isn't anything to fear.  But Dennis was with her while outside and she panicked, like she's been doing lately, and wanted a diaper or a pull up.  They were both wet from the pool, so no time to get one...and finally, once she heard the pee pee come out, it was relief...like she realized it was okay and nothing bad...

Soooo 3 days in a row pee pee and poo poo in potty or toilet!  I think what really helped was a free app I found for the iPhone too.
 Aunt Lisa being silly...
 Goofball...
Emma had to do the same thing...
So it's been a very good and relaxing weekend...very much needed...Hope everyone had a great weekend and Memorial Day!

Grilling/Hanging Out and Emma's BFF

I saw this in the Family Fun magazine and thought Emma would like it...she LOVED it.  I cut up lots of veggies, we got some chicken, cut square pieces of aluminum foil.  She loved "cooking," picking out the veggies to put in her square, then rolling it up, and writing her name on the outside.

It helped her like the veggies more and eat better since she "cooked" it.  She said, "I do like onions!"

Building "snow" sandmen outside by the pool, and keeping her potty nearby...she is very reluctant to potty training...
And we need to get together with sweet Merrin a whole lot more.  We had a playdate on Wednesday with Merrin.  They were adorable together.  Emma was actually hugging all over Merrin when it was time for her to leave.  Two very special little girls.  Then the three bottom pictures, we are at Merrin's Dad's Mom's house...okay...Joey's Mom's house sounds simpler ;)  They loved playing in that one particular room and Emma does love shoes ;)  They play so well together...
We are in trouble with this little one...OH MY!!!
Emma calls Merrin her Best Friend now...she went to bed the other night saying "Merrin is my Best Friend."
And the Dad's did a little swimming with the girls...
More BFF time at the Asian celebration at the Children's Museum.  Some iPhone pics from the fun time they had...

Emma checking out what someone else is doing...too cute ;)
Emma STILL loves the skeleton riding the bike...her FAV!

Making paper lanterns...
When we first got in this room, the lady looked at Emma and said she'd probably just want to write with chalk and not do a lantern.  Dennis said, No, she wants to do a lantern.  Once the lady got us started, we could figure out what to do...but I think the lady was a bit surprised to see Emma cutting with scissors, and writing...

We had such a good week and weekend...
I don't know how this post will come out, because I seem to not be able to work by myself even more so lately ;)

Got Published and Winner on Two Peas Maya Road Challenge

Every now and then I think about taking a little extra time to write down products I use on layouts and/or mini albums and submit like crazy to scrapbooking magazines.  That day is just not happening anytime soon...

But I did have ScrapStreet ask to publish a layout I did back in March for Scrapping the Music.  It is an online magazine.  Had not heard of them, so it was good to find out about their magazine.  Check it out...

And more scrap news...me along with three others were selected by Two Peas as winners of the Maya Road challenge!  Here's the album that was selected as a winner!

Okay...busy week and weekend to come...hope everyone has a great weekend!!!

Some 2011 Changes...

For almost a year, I was trying to at least go to Yoga class at the gym once or twice a week, but slowly and slowly it became more difficult to be able to go.  Leaving Emma with strangers is not an option, that does not fit her personality at all or her situation.  So since December, when I can, I try to go for a walk.  I quit the gym again, it just doesn't work for me or us.  I'm back to the basics of what I had done for over 10 years...walking...  I'm not able to do it as much to feel the benefits of the stress relief, but at least I am doing something for my health...and Emma and Dada love to cheer me on as I pass by...
More stress relief for me has been getting better at taking pictures, learning more, practicing more, reading, learning, practicing, etc etc etc.  And creating scrapbook layouts, cards, mini albums...
When I cook, as Dennis says, "I'm on."  But it doesn't leave much time for playing and running around with Emma, cleaning up, doing one of my stress relievers, or walking.  This particular Bertolli is one of the better ones we've tried.  Dennis didn't know it was frozen and thought I had made it.
And the biggest thing that changed was finding out about the school Emma is going to right now.  The two and a half months of having to stay at the school until she was comfortable was emotional and draining.  But it finally happened and she has so much fun and more confidence now.  The teacher confirmed what we always knew.  She has to be comfortable where she is before you can leave her AND she has to have nurturing teachers, she's not one to be left to drift...  And for her...it takes a little longer to feel comfortable...every child is different...
One thing that I can do more than ever is scrapbook with Emma.  She picks some things from my stash (I let her...it's fun for her and I want to include her, she feels proud of what she makes), and we work together.  One day this past weekend I think was even able to start and finish a layout almost to completion while she worked on her masterpiece.  EVERYTHING takes much longer when she is working along side of you, but it's worth it.  She's not finished her masterpiece yet, as she says, so I couldn't take a picture of hers...but here is mine...

Scrapping the Music's challenge song this time around is Dream Big by Ryan Shupe & The Rubberband.  I chose, from the song, the words "Walk with Pride" and scrapped about how I am back to walking...
