Like Momma Does

Been so into photography lately, having to slow down a bit.  But love getting sweet photos like this of my boy, Archie.  Emma is VERY jealous of him.  If she sees me holding him, she says no...put him down, hold me!  He still gets the attention he deserves...my boy...
The latest in crazes with Emma, is wearing her old 12 mos ladybug costume from two Halloween's ago. It still fits, she's grown more up, so I just put pants under the dress!  Have been trying to get in my scrap room and get some scrapping done.   Emma will follow me into my room, because she wants to do like Momma Does she says.  She'll spell out her name with some of my letters and even surprised me with this little smiley face...I let her use my stash ;)
Little Ladybug wants to do everything Momma does!
She does make a total mess (this is nothing), more than even I can do in my room.  But it's sweet that she likes doing it like Momma does as she says...

Growing

Emma has been so excited about the daylilies that she has planted.  They've grown so much since this picture.  She loves to water them with her watering can.
And they are not the only thing that has grown.  After two and a half months of her starting pre-school, I have officially been able to leave her for the last 3 or 4 days she has been.  It's only two days a week, for 3 hours.  So it's not much, but I'm moving at high speed to get as much done as I can.  I cannot say enough how proud I am of how well she is finally adjusting with the separation anxiety.  She has blossomed from the separation and it has given her confidence.  On our recent playdate with other Chinese Adoptive families, one of the other Mom's even noticed how much better she was playing on her own.  It has been a tough year and a half with the constant 24/7.  I love my girl, but we ALL needed this change and growth.  It's the best thing we could have done...

She Will Always Be My Baby

I took a double take at the chalkboard the other day, and thought maybe Dennis had written Emma's name on the board, or helped her.  So I asked him.  He said no.  I said, well, I didn't do it!  I looked at Emma, and said, did you write your name on the board?  She sure did!  All I can say, is this little chickadee keeps us on our toes!
(our traditional pose with a picture taken from our backs looking at a scene)  First time we did this pose was in Sendai, Japan.  So needless to say, we have been very worried about our friends in Japan that we made through my sister-in-law Denise, and thankfully Denise has heard from them all.  BUT, this picture is of the Great Wall in China.  Just about a day and half before our lives got swept up in a whirlwind!
I tell Emma all of the time, that she is not a baby anymore, BUT that she will always be my baby.  She loves it when I tell her that.  This little baby has come a very long way...
I had done this layout awhile ago of pics of us out and about celebrating our adoption day.  Time is flying by even faster now, and harder to do much of anything else these days ;) so I'm happy to be able to get important things documented.  Emma is already appreciating all of the books and layouts I've made and loves to look at them all the time...
On one of those few days where I had enough energy left...I used the Silhouette to make these cards...going to send them out as Easter cards...
The pleated ribbon at the bottom was off-white...so I was able to spray it with Maya Mist or Studio Calico mist.  Had a lot of fun doing these...and using up some supplies that have been neglected ;)

Missing Aunt Denise

I took so many pictures while Denise was here, it's hard to keep up.  We had so much fun and Emma and all of us are missing her.  Denise got to see of lot of what Emma does during the week and shared some of Emma's favorite things to do...like the latest craze is going for some Fro Yo (Frozen Yogart) at Menchies...
I think Emma is so over me taking pictures, but Dennis got her going by telling her to look for the yellow light on my camera.  I set up a tripod at this local restaurant we spotted to stop and try to get photos with Denise and all of us.  I really wanted Emma in her blue dress...but she was loopy and tired...I think it's priceless her expressions...
Since really getting more serious about photography, it does make taking shots a lot more stressful.  I know some things I would have changed, but it has got to be fun...
One of my favorite shots I got of Dennis and Denise...
After we all went to Emma's ballet class, we walked around and saw this band playing.  Emma is not shy, well sometimes at first, but she just walked right up int he middle of them ;)  We even got them to play her favorite song...Twinkle Twinkle Little Star...
Besides the photography class on mastering manual mode, I'm taking Kim Klassen's class on Photoshop Elements.  She uses textures, so after one of our lessons this week, I tried it on my own photos...
Love the aged look her texture gave to these photos...so much fun to play around with...
Well...we set up another time to get a family photo shoot.  I really wanted to get something for Easter.  She does love her dress, so that wasn't a problem to get on her.  She doesn't nap during the day unless she falls asleep in the car...so while she was fresh, had to shoot in the morning right before the harsh sun came out and found a shaded area in our own yard.
Because she moves around so much, I'm having a hard time locking in settings for manual...but for this shot below I overexposed my shot anticipating her movement for when she IS in the shot and got it!  I was very proud.  It did come out a little underexposed (dark), but thanks to PSE I fixed it up.  Also if you notice, what made it more fun for her was for HER to have the remote...NOT me!  I'll take what I can get...
Next, I was able to do more of what comes naturally for me is shooting her...
We love you Denise...hope you get home safely...

Loving Aunt Denise

Emma could not wait to give Denise her birthday present...she was so proud...
Getting lots of love...
Aunt Denise did Emma's hair the next day ;)  Too cute!
Went for Mexican food for her birthday...Emma just loves it when Momma takes pictures ;)  Actually there was a TV on in the restaurant, several...and she doesn't like the TV on...that's for another post...
Aunt Denise got to be a part of one of Emma's own story times at Barnes...
Lots of playing outside...the weather is gorgeous!
Chickadee has had a ball running and playing...just wish she would nap ;)
Scrapping the Music's challenge song this time is by the Indigo Girls called "Closer to Fine."  It made me think of how long it has taken for my torn tendon in my foot to heal.  I still will probably not be able to wear the more fashionable shoes I used to love to wear, but the shoes my foot will tolerate are at least growing...
And for Black and White Wednesday, I picked this photo...not a perfect photo, but love the moment I caught with them together...

PARK, New Flash, and Aunt Denise

Learning more about photography, and you can't help but get more equipment...so very first time hooking up my external flash to my camera...having no idea what I'm doing right now...but even with that, I'm happy with the results of being able to get those candid photos inside with very low light.  Have a lot to learn about it, but I was really happy with the results so far...
I think Emma could live at the park.  She could swing for a solid 20 mins or more.  I had a Mom and her daughter come and go while we were still swinging her the other day.  But I took her to a different park this day, we went to the one with the trees, I call it.  I like it because at least it has some shade.  As long as she is swinging, she's happy...

Right in the bright sun, so not good light, but I brought my camera anyway to just practice.  It's a good outlet for me while having to swing her ;)  We met Aunt Lisa later for lunch and had a full day after...
Today, we just picked up Aunt Denise, and Emma is sooooo excited!!!  She ran to Denise as soon as she saw her at the airport and hasn't left her alone!!!

Mardi Gras 2011

With taking the photography class at Big Picture...and mainly not becoming complacent with just ordinary photos and making an effort instead...I really tried to capture the details of Mardi Gras day.   A small parade and very family focused, so just good clean fun, although the ladies in the top right photo were having a fabulous time!
Lots of color...so I was in heaven...I love vibrant colors!  I got bolder, first time ever doing this...went up to people and asked if I could take their photos...they were more then willing...just big time out of my comfort zone and then I feel like I'm all thumbs taking photos, but I was so happy when I got these onto my computer...
Emma had a great time...even though it doesn't look like it.  It is VERY LOUD with the horns of the trucks blowing...it hurts our ears, so can only imagine what it is like for little ears.  But she was screaming "throw me something mister."  I was so proud of her.  She dressed up in her Little Mermaid costume...but sadly, this year's parade was not throwing like it did last year...so after the first pass...we were all ready to go home...
Got a decent amount of beads to make a little one happy though ;)  But we were disappointed not to catch that Nemo that came our way!  Emma is still talking about that...

Early for April Showers...

Spring was coming fast here, but then all of sudden bushes had tons of blooms on them, had to get a couple of shots of this bush by the pool.  Unfortunately, the rain got worse and turned into a thunderstorm, knocking over this bush...uprooting it.  Put it back down, but then another bad storm...hopefully it'll make it...
And for black and white Wednesday, here's one of more photos I have from Mardi Gras to go through...chickadee just is still not a fan of playing by herself...lucky to get anything done...
And I was asked by Sandy, she has a great site with lots of scrapbooking inspiration, to join in with this month's challenge of animals, using green, yellow, brown, and white color combo, and playing with stripes and/or polka dots.  She saw my mini-album from Emma's first visit to the zoo and asked me to join in.  Go check her out and join in too!  Here's my mini-album...

Ready for Mardi Gras

Well, the only parade Emma has gone to so far is one with her Aunt Lisa at her work!  Hoping to make it Mardi Gras day though.  But we at least have the spirit going...painted our nails with the Mardi Gras colors...
Emma wanted her toes too ;)
And had a quick photo shoot...of course, she doesn't cooperate a whole lot.  She was trying to throw the beads at me, while I was holding my camera...not a good mix!  And then she'd shout "through me something mister."  And, of course, she would avoid the camera as much as possible...but I was very "lucky" to get just a few...

I have to say even though you can't see her whole face, the the composition of this, I really like...and especially like that you can see that little smile under the tassels of the umbrella...
We've been busy making a Mardi Gras float...and she made the mask at school...
