We are all Feeling Better!

Well, the ER doctor said Emma didn't have a virus, but then we ended up getting sick!  So don't know about that diagnosis.  But we are both finally starting to feel better and get our energy back.  Man, how rest would have been nice to have, but no rest with a 2 year old!

Late getting this layout from Scrapping the Music's challenge from last week up.  But better late than never!  Always fun to scrap using songs as a jumping point!

And this is the current week's challenge on Scrapping the Music!  REMs Shiny People.  So many things you can do with this one.  I thought of Emma's face all lit up because she was painting!  And it was a very very gloomy, thunderstorming kind of day outside.  Come play along with us.  Marit has very generously donated a spot in her Let It Loose class.  I was lucky enough to win this back in February and it was awesome!  I loved how each lesson was broken down and how you grew with each one.  So go check out the challenge to enter to win!

One Year Anniversary Together as a Forever Family

I cannot wrap my head around it being just one year ago that we were walking into the Civil Affairs in China and about to meet our daughter for the first time.  After a long 3 and a half year wait, 4 years from start to finish, it was finally time...
The babies had made the very rough and approximately 3 hour journey to the city to have their lives changed forever.  And had been waiting all morning...and afternoon...not knowing what was about to happen to them...

And yet...more paperwork!  It was unnerving!  This particular paperwork had to be completely 100% accurate as this would go on the document showing we were a family.

There were no words to describe how long the wait was and then to be here and wait more...

And then all of a sudden there they all were...Emma is the second from the left...

There she is...

She looked so different in person than the pictures they sent to us...

She was even cuter than we imagined...

And from that moment on...she never let me go...

Took about 3 days before she would let Dennis hold her...now she won't let either one of us go!

With the 13 hour difference.  This morning at 2 a.m. our time was when we met and it is already the next day  when we went back to the Civil Affairs at 8:30 a.m. and made her officially our daughter...

And Emma is getting better since we had to take her to the ER Friday.  It could have easily been the croup, but she didn't have that barking cough...not quite anyway.  But she did get a steroid for her throat so she could get some relief.  Poor thing is already having to deal with the sinus and allergy problems.

Here is the video I had put together for Mother's Day to remember this special time, and the year of pictures before she was with us...

Emma's Three-Day Birthday!

A Year ago, this little chickadee was in a Chinese orphanage.  So it was super special to share her special day WITH her!  We had her little table and chairs set up for her when she woke up with the little Thomas the Train foldout with the trains that stick to it.  As you can see by that smile, she LOVED it!
My little Archie even got a little excited!  ;)

Emma had spotted this Thomas train balloon in Party City when I had taken her with me awhile ago...so I promised her that she could have him for her birthday...which helped her to not have a crying fit.  So when I ordered the balloons for her party, she spotted him again, and I got him for her as I promised!  I think if she had just gotten balloons for her birthday, that would have made her day!  She was so happy!

Dada took the day off and we headed to the Gymboree class...and met some of her friends there...

And then had lunch with one of her buddies and his family at our favorite Chinese Restaurant.  They were treated with some ice cream after...

And treated to some fish food to feed the fish after...

Dennis' Mom, her husband, and his sister, Denise came in town.  This is the first time his Mom and her husband have been here to see Emma!  I'll remain silent about that!  Ha!

So the next day, Denise, Dennis' sister got some pictures of us with our shirts that we got from China.  Ours say Father and Mother in Chinese and Emma's says Made in China...

EMMA IS 2!!!!!

With the grandparents...poser shot ;)

And Emma's most favorite out of town visitor who actually played with her too...was her Aunt Denise!  She had so much fun with her!

I can't sing Happy Birthday to her without crying...

She got so excited when she saw the balloons I had ordered for her...

I think all of the little ones enjoyed helping to open presents.  They were so cute!

Well, this little chickadee had a fun-filled day.  She actually took a nap when everyone left...she was very tired...but after dinner, she had fun playing more with her new toys and her Aunt Denise...before Aunt Denise had to go back home...

A BIG thank you to Aunt Lisa for helping to make the party a success.  I could not have done it without her...and I mean that literally!  And to Aunt Denise for helping me the night before to roll appetizers while I was getting dinner ready for everyone else, for watching Emma during the party while we got to enjoy the party a little bit, and for the time she spent while here to play with Emma.

Tiny Dancer - The New Challenge

This week's song came at a perfect time on Scrapping the Music.  Emma will walk around on her tip toes from time to time and she has a little tutu skirt...so I knew these pictures of her dancing on her toes and in her skirt would be perfect in remembering this time in her life with this week's song on Scrapping the Music!  Come join us!!!

Almost 2

I think I've been getting ready for Emma's birthday about three months ago!  Shopping at least for her.  We're a little excited around here to be able to celebrate her birthday WITH HER!!!   I'm glad we did celebrate her first birthday AFTER we got home since we had not met yet.  But this one feels more like the first for us...So decorating started three weeks ago!
This is from 7 Gypsies.  I used it to spell out Happy Birthday and to put pictures of Emma through our first year together...

Kai Kai...is how Emma says Kai-Lan.  Yo Gabba Gabba is out (for now anyway).  Funny, because my sister and I bid on Yo Gabba Gabba stuffed animals on Ebay...and let me tell you, Muno cost me a pretty penny.  But she was crazy about them.  I knew she'd grow out of them, but didn't know it would be so fast...    So mostly her birthday is in the Ni Hao Kai-Lan theme.  Made this banner to spell out Happy Birthday for her using the Silhoutte HD.  The cake, though, will have the Yo Gabba Gabba figures...it'll all be colorful and fun...

Emma loves her washable markers in the bathtub WHEN she takes a bath...but her and Dada got a little crazy one afternoon...

I think the caption for this should be..."Don't Look at Me...He did it!"

And we drove out for a very quick visit to the beach to test the waters...and see how she would do...  Usually we have to show her what to do and she's kind of a little scared of new things...ah, no, this time we had to hold her back...no fear at all...

And this goes to show you how far behind I get in blogging...this was almost one month ago with the play date at the park with Chinese adoptive families...  At one time, she wouldn't get into these swings, now, you can't get her out!  Yes, that's a chip she is eating...I think she could eat them all day if we'd let her...

It took three months since that very quick little out of town trip I made to get her separation anxiety controlled and her confidence that she is not going to be left gone.  This is proof right here with her exploring and playing on her own...

I just cannot say enough of how special it is to have Merrin and her family so close that we can visit each other.  She and Emma spent their first year in the orphanage together in Chenzhou...

And Emma loves Merrin's dad...even when he doesn't throw her up in the air, although that helps!!!

As Joey says, he can't throw Merrin high enough!

"Home"

The new song for this week's challenge is up at Scrapping the Music.  Hearing the song again and looking at the layout that I had done...brings back the emotions of what inspired the layout...

What a feeling to bring Emma home, to make her a U.S. citizen, to make her our daughter, to set foot "Home."  I have chills and tears just remembering this special time that was almost one year ago now...

So come join us at Scrapping the Music.  I want to see what inspires you from this week's awesome song by Daughtry.
